Reflections

Ever wish you would have said something to someone, but the words never came until it was too late? If I had a dime for every time this happened to me, I'd be rich. People need to know God loves them so if I don't get a chance to say it, I pray that someone else will.

Funny Quirks

When us cashiers take our drawers back for break and the bookkeeper takes money out, it is called a drag. Today when I picked my drawer back up the bookkeeper said she drug me. I exclaimed, "you drugged me"?!!!

Definition of cheap: a customer asked me if our store carried mulch. I replied, "no" so he then asked me if we carried potting soil. I showed him where it was and he said, "thanks, I use it for kitty litter."!!!

Holiday Misgivings

The closer I get to Christmas the more chaotic things seem to get at work. I guess that is the life of a cashier, but still so many people seem to miss out on what Christmas is supposed to be about: not arguing over the price of tissue paper, not running to get ahead of someone in the checkout line, but promoting love (Christ's love) to those who are lonely and hurting. Several women customers who have come through my line recently lost their husbands. I try my best to comfort them and let them know God loves them, always wishing I could do more. The hustle and bustle of the season should not deter us from giving of ourselves to others. The significance of Christ's birth; of him coming as a baby into this world while yet he was also fully God is this: John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life."  Therefore instead of arguing amongst one another this holiday season, I pray that people would give of their time and be selfless just as Christ showed selflessness by giving his life for us on the cross; the true meaning of Christmas. To get everyone in the mood here are a couple photos of a nativity display in my home:

Elf Hat

At work I call my elf hat my happy hat because I have rules while I'm wearing it. I can't be sad or angry in the happy hat. I never take it off even when I go to the bathroom. I think one of these days a kid is going to see me coming out of the bathroom and ask their parents if Santa's workshop is in there.

I created this for all my coworkers past and present. I give you:

Twas the Night Before Christmas
at Drug Mart

Twas the Night Before Christmas
and all through the store
not a creature was stirring
which was a real bore

And I in my elf hat ‘bout ready to doze
was standing there twiddling my fingers and toes

When all of a sudden I heard a great noise
Something was happening in our section of toys

I left my register and ran over to find
Someone stooped over with a real big behind

Jumping as he heard me
He bent over again

He turned then I saw him
And that is when…

I noticed his beard was Duck Dynasty long
And his belly was huge like that of King Kong

He spoke not a word but kept stuffing his sack
I said, “Santa you better put all those toys back!”

Ignoring me he went back to his work
I thought, “Holy cow! This guy is a jerk!”

So I called up the feds to drag Santa away
And he left with neither his reindeer nor sleigh

Then I heard him whimper as he rode out of sight,
“Merry Christmas to all. At least I put up a fight!”

Mission

Matthew 5:14-16

"You are the light of the world- like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly father"

These words reflect what I strive to achieve every day in my place of work. I am a cashier at a drug store, but I am also an ambassador for Christ; following His example to love others and forgive them (the need for which happens quite often in this venue). Though I haven't yet mastered this, as you may read about in future posts, spiritual growth is part of the Christian life, and with the help of the Holy Spirit I hope to draw closer to God in my day to day walk with his son Jesus Christ.
