Holiday Misgivings
The closer I get to Christmas the more chaotic things seem to get at work. I guess that is the life of a cashier, but still so many people seem to miss out on what Christmas is supposed to be about: not arguing over the price of tissue paper, not running to get ahead of someone in the checkout line, but promoting love (Christ's love) to those who are lonely and hurting. Several women customers who have come through my line recently lost their husbands. I try my best to comfort them and let them know God loves them, always wishing I could do more. The hustle and bustle of the season should not deter us from giving of ourselves to others. The significance of Christ's birth; of him coming as a baby into this world while yet he was also fully God is this: John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life." Therefore instead of arguing amongst one another this holiday season, I pray that people would give of their time and be selfless just as Christ showed selflessness by giving his life for us on the cross; the true meaning of Christmas. Mission
Matthew 5:14-16
"You are the light of the world- like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly father"
These words reflect what I strive to achieve every day in my place of work. I am a cashier at a drug store, but I am also an ambassador for Christ; following His example to love others and forgive them (the need for which happens quite often in this venue). Though I haven't yet mastered this, as you may read about in future posts, spiritual growth is part of the Christian life, and with the help of the Holy Spirit I hope to draw closer to God in my day to day walk with his son Jesus Christ.
